Fellowships 2020

The Fellowship contains funding to sustain Fellows during their learning and encourage them to join the Fortis Society via an expedited computation mechanism upon accomplishment of the Fellowship. The Fellowship provides mentoring from strong-level experts, individualized apprenticeship and career counseling, leadership development seminars and connect directly to a global network of outstanding student leaders.

The Government of the U.S. announced the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) as a flagship initiative to engage in the next generation of African leaders. The necessity to participate in cultivating good, outcomes-oriented leaders arises from the stats: nearly 1 in 3 Africans are between 10 and 24 years old, and about 60 percent of the overall population of Africa is below 35 years old. Who is going to motivate these emerging Africans and guide them? Who will determine the future of innovation, political leadership, and public administration? To answer those questions, YALI supports three initiatives to recognize and inspire youth leaders: the YALI Mandela Washington Fellowship, the YALI Network, and now national leadership centers across Africa.
